BASQUIAT BOOM FOR REAL 洋書

アートの本格的な教育も受けていなかったジャン・ミッシェル・バスキアが登場してアート界のスターダムに上り詰めた経緯となぜかがわかる手記や写真が満載の作品集。1977年からSAMO©️として友人のALI DIAZとストリートにアートを描いたりポエトリーを制作するなどNYのダウンタウンで活動を始めたバスキアはやがてそのアーティストとしての独特な才能を注目されて1982年、21歳という若さでカッセルのドクメンタ７に参加アーティストとして最年少で選出された。本の内容はチヤプター１から６までに区切られそれぞれの時代について紹介している。本のタイトルになっているBOOM FOR REALは1981年に撮影されたフィルムDOWNTOWN 81(後にNEW YORK BEATとして知られている）の現場の壁にバスキアがスプレーで描いた言葉である。若くしてこの世を去ったバスキアの短くも濃い人生を振り返ることができる一冊。
